Not-for-profit and social services organizations deliver invaluable services to our community. These fields tend to attract highly empathetic individuals with enthusiasm and expertise. These professionals often take regular risks in order to their work – whether it is simply working late, hearing clients’ distressing and painful stories, or managing unstable or disturbed clients. We believe that it is vital for the community to support these individuals while they care for the community. We want to be sure that providers have the tools to be able to have longevity in their fields.
The benefits of IMPACT programming for providers are decreased job fatigue, more cooperative and direct communication in the workplace, more confidence in handling “difficult” clients, and being a good role model of appropriate, kind boundaries for clients.
Additionally, learning personal safety and self-defense skills relieves nagging doubt and fear, so it is a vital part of self-care that can prevent burnout. It can be hard enough to hear the difficult stories, experience budget shortfalls, and work with too few staff/supplies without also having to be concerned about physical safety in neighborhoods or with unstable clients. For more details, go to our page For Providers.
We are also a resource available to the organization itself, and its employees/providers. We help management teams answer Human Resource questions, as we do with other businesses, by consulting on policies, safety concerns around the physical environment and the building, etc. See the description of the Initial Consultation for a more detailed description of how we work with our nonprofit collaborators to meet their individual needs and challenges.
IMPACT is often hired as an additional support for at-risk or youth clients, to provide practice in boundary-setting skills and personal safety, as well as classes that teach healthy relationship, the roots of violence, etc. See our packages for At-Risk Clients and Youth for more detail information.
