On July 16, 2003, Marissa Mathy-Zvaifler, a vibrant 16 year-old Santa Fe High student, was brutally sexually assaulted and murdered while at a concert in Albuquerque. Marissa had intended to enroll in an IMPACT self-defense class before a convicted sex offender abruptly took her life.
To honor her, Marissa’s friends and family created Marissa’s Memorial Fund to sponsor need-based scholarships so that everyone can receive IMPACT safety training to prevent violence in his/her own life. Since 2003, over $55,000 of scholarship funds have been raised to give teens, children, women and men life-saving skills and to help prevent another senseless tragedy.
